The John Howard Society of Niagara Management Team and the Board of Directors would like to take this opportunity to update our community, our clients, the businesses we serve and our funders.
Over the past two weeks, our Management team along with our Board of Directors has made some difficult decisions due to COVID-19. Decisions that involved the clients we support. Decisions that involved the health and wellness of our clients and the health and wellness of our staff. The transition to move remotely and virtually took into account a number of factors as well as timely and decisive action. Our mission statement, “ Through responsive and individualized service, the John Howard Society of Niagara is committed to facilitating positive personal growth through Justice, Prevention, Employment and Education programs that enrich the communities of the Niagara Region” can only be accomplished through meaningful, and professional interactions with our clients. Every person we come in contact with is important to us. We pride ourselves on offering a just-in-time service model, and we needed to now adjust our responsiveness to something else, something that we haven’t done before. Staff demonstrated to us that they can offer a new level of service by being innovative and thought leaders. All our staff have been engaged with the community and local businesses in a variety of mediums using a client-centred approach. It is with pride we say that we have not stopped working tirelessly for the people of the Niagara Region and will do so for the foreseeable future. For over 70 years we have drawn on the strength of our staff and now more than ever we are challenged to demonstrate that strength. Daily we see the front line workers, first responders, health care professionals, grocery store and restaurant workers meeting unprecedented obstacles, we humbly want to do our part. We are here for those who need support, access to services, a person to talk to, a referral, a job, workers, community contacts. We are there for you, like so many of the dedicated Social Service agencies across this region.
Like you, we have families, health concerns, childcare issues, financial burdens, feelings of worry and stress. It is a reality right now in these times that change day to day and sometimes hour to hour. What the John Howard Society of Niagara can offer is hope. We can answer your calls, your emails, and your texts. We can direct you to our partners in Niagara that specialize in areas you may need the most. We can work with you on achieving goals and finding work.
