Record Suspension Program
A record suspension (formerly known as a pardon) allows individuals who were convicted of a criminal offence, but have completed their sentence and demonstrated that they are law-abiding citizens for a prescribed number of years, to have their criminal record kept separate and apart from other criminal records. This means that they could obtain a criminal record check for employment/school/travel/etc. purposes, and their prior charges would not show up.
This fee-for-service program supports eligible individuals through the record suspension application process. The completed application is then sent off to the Parole Board of Canada (PBC) for review and approval. There are costs associated with obtaining a record suspension including the cost of fingerprints, court documents, police background checks and the application fee for the PBC, in addition to our service fee of $200. We will not charge any fees until it has been determined that someone is eligible for a record suspension and wants to move forward with our support.
