Strengthening Families for the Future is a prevention program for families with children of all ages who may be at risk for substance misuse, depression, violence, delinquency, and school failure. Strengthening Families is effective because it involves the whole family. The goals of the program are to:

  • reduce children’s or adolescents’ intention to use alcohol and/or other drugs, and reduce other behaviour problems
  • increase children’s resilience and life skills
  • increase positive and effective parenting
  • increase family communication

Strengthening Families for the Future is supported by a number of community agencies including, the John Howard Society of Niagara, Family and Children’s Services Niagara, Niagara Falls Community Health Centre, Niagara Region, St. Catharines Public Library, Welland Public Library, Port Colborne Public Library, Pelham Public Library and Thorold Public Library, Niagara Peninsula Foundation for Children and Old.
