Rodman Hall Gardens
The John Howard Society of Niagara, in partnership with Rodman Hall, conceived the re-creation of the gardens in 1982. The gardens behind the house originate from the 1850’s and were designed by the Duke of Kent’s gardener. The steering committee decided to plant azaleas and rhododendrons, making the gardens the largest collection of eraceous plants in Eastern Canada.
HRDC has provided funds for much of the labour. Men from the Temporary Absence Program have also contributed to the workforce. Through a generous donation in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Walker Bros. Quarries, the Walker family provided funds for all of the planting.
The Rodman Hall gardens officially opened in 1988 and are open to the public at no charge.
