Attendance Centre Counsellors:
This position is responsible for delivering the Attendance Centre program across the Niagara Region, which services high risk youth in the Criminal Justice system between the ages of 12 and 17, who have been referred by the court and / or by their probation officer. This position is responsible for providing direct service, including client supervision, liaising with the community, families, probation and the courts, and the development, implementation and maintenance of a cognitive behavioural program curriculum. As part of a case management team, the Attendance Centre Counsellor works with Probation Officers to monitor and supervise the terms of a court order. This position reports to the Supervisor – Attendance Centre.
Bail Verification and Supervision Counsellors:
This position provides community supervision to individuals released on the Bail Program and enforces any court orders. This position promotes positive and significant changes in order to enhance a client’s lifestyle and well being. The Bail Counsellor reports directly to the Director of Programs.
Community Service Order Counsellors:
The purpose of this position is to place clients ordered by the courts to complete community service hours with an established non-profit organization in order to fulfil the number of hours required. This position reports to the Director of Programs.
Volunteer Probation Order Supervisor:
The purpose of this position is to co-ordinate the activities and supervise the volunteer staff of the Volunteer Program. The position provides leadership and direction for overseeing all facets of the program, including direct volunteer supervision, liaising with Probation and Parole, and community partners. This position reports directly to the Director of Programs.
Diversion Program Counsellor:
This position involves counsellor liaising with the Crown Attorney’s office to obtain suitable candidates for the Diversion program. This includes seeing the client through the program process from adjournment court to successful/non-successful completion. This position reports to the Director of Programs.
Employment Counsellors:
The position of Employment Counsellor can be involved in any number of employment related programs, including but not limited to provincially funded programs such as Job Connect, SJS and federally funded programs such as Job Finding Club, and programs run out of the Fort Erie office. The purpose of this position is to complete client needs assessments, individually or in group sessions, and assist clients in establishing realistic short and/or long term plans of action with respect to meeting their employment / vocational needs. Employment Counsellors provide a variety of services, as required, such as individual counselling, resource area support, group facilitation and student services. Employment Counsellors liaise with community agencies, employers and representatives from the school boards. The position of Employment Counsellor reports directly to the Program Manager.
Job Developers:
The purpose of this position is to develop relationships with employers that help bridge the access and credibility gap for the participants of the various employment initiatives offered by the John Howard Society of Niagara, including the Job Connect program. The incumbent will be expected to travel throughout the Niagara Region in order to visit employers on site, complete contract negotiations and conduct monitors. This position develops employment opportunities for clients in these programs, and negotiates subsidized training placements, as required. The position of Job Developer reports directly to the Program Manager.
Program Assistants:
The position of Program Assistant can be involved in any number of John Howard Society of Niagara programs, including but not limited to employment, corrections, and prevention programs. The purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to the staff, management and clients of the JHSoN. Program Assistants provide a variety of services, depending on the needs of the program they are working in.
